I am an Associate Professor at the School of Government at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. I am also a Research Fellow at IZA and an Associate Researcher with the Center for Distributive, Labor and Social Studies (CEDLAS)

I received my Ph.D. in Agricultural & Applied Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; an M.A. in Economics at Universidad Nacional de la Plata in Argentina, where I was a member of CEDLAS; and received my undergraduate degree in Economics in my home country from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras.

My research interests are in Applied Microeconomics and encompass Development, Labor Markets, Economics of Education, Violence & Crime, Poverty & Inequality, and Displacement & Migration.

I am currently interested in exploring how institutions and public policies affect schooling and labor market decisions at all ages; understanding and improving the school-to-work transition for young workers, reducing inequality of opportunity due to gender identity and sexual orientation on education, employment, and welfare; studying the causes and consequences of violence on individual and household outcomes; and better understanding how to help forcibly displaced populations due to violence and politics. Most of my work is empirical and focuses on countries in Latin America.

Here is my CV in English and Spanish (PDF).
